The VS-R265 is a 4K live-streaming hardware encoder/decoder with H.264 and H.265 support. With its simple structure, this all-in-one video distribution device allows for simultaneous 4K/Full HD live streaming, backup recording, and decoding.
Software encoding is the mainstream method of live streaming, and while it's easy to use and provides high-quality video, it can also cause unexpected trouble such as PCs overheating during long streaming sessions.
Hardware encoders are powerful for long, stable live streams and recordings.
The VS-R265 is such a powerful partner that offers stability and convenience. Once users experience live streaming with a hardware encoder, they will never want to return to live streaming over software.
The VS-R265 ー A Stand-Alone Encoder and Decoder for 4K Live Streaming
The VS-R265 4K live stream encoder addresses the growing demand for an external stand-alone encoder for 4K live streaming environments. The VS-R265 functions as a YouTube encoder and also provides live video streaming to popular Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) including to name a few. The half-rack size VS-R265 functions as a stand-alone unit?no external computer is needed for recording or streaming.

Professional Audio and Video Streaming for 4K AV over IP Applications
Balanced analog Euroblock/Phoenix low voltage wire connectors and unbalanced analog 1/8" (3.5mm) mini-stereo jacks provide versatile audio I/O connections for a wide range commercial AV over IP environments, including corporate, education, house of worship, government, industrial and security.
TASCAM Professional Audio Integration With Streaming Video
Audio can be embedded from analog sources and de-embedded to drive networked audio playback for ceiling speakers, or digital audio within the HDMI I/O can be used. An integrated installed output level configuration function and reference level switching function (up to +20dBu) allows reliable and flexible system structuring when streaming video.
Compliant With Standard Live Streaming Protocols
The VS-R265 live streaming encoder is compatible with popular standard streaming protocols, including HLS, RTMP, RTP/RTSP, Multicast, Unicast?all with RESTful API for integration into control systems in commercial AV installations.
The RESTful API interface has been updated to V2 from VS-R V2.0.1. Control is not possible with the previous (V1) specifications. See the RESTful API Interface Specifications V2. Please refer to comparison chart between V1 and V2 on download page.
Guide to point-to-point streaming (unicast) between different networksMultiple Simulcast and Backup Enabled by 3 RTMP Streams Simultaneously
V1.1.0 adds support for three simultaneous RTMP streams for distribution to multiple platforms, as well as simultaneous backup distribution to the server of the same streaming service. The total number of simultaneous streams is eight (3 x RTMP / RTMPS、 1 x RTSP、1 x HLS、2 x RTP / UDP Unicast, 1 x RTP / UDP Multicast).
3 RTMP streams can be simultaneously controlled through the STREAM button in the unit's front panel (added in V2.0.1).
Output Selectable from Various Streams
The decoder can receive RTP, UDP unicast, RTP/UDP multicast, RTMP/RTMPS, and HLS streams. The selected stream will be decoded, and the audio and video will be output through the HDMI terminal. In addition, audio can be simultaneously output through the balanced (Euroblock) and unbalanced (3.5mm stereo mini jack) audio outputs.
Simultaneous Recording and Archiving Via SD, USB and Internal Storage
The VS-R265 can record directly to USB connected media or SD cards via a front panel loading slot.
Recordings to internal storage (17GB) are now supported (added in V2.0.1).
MP4 is added to the recording file format in addition to TS (added in V2.0.1).
Additional Features
Create, Archive and Backup Files Automatically Via FTP
Recorded files can be automatically uploaded to an FTP server automatically for creating back-up copies, editing, or repurposing to the web.
Support for continuous recording regardless of storage capacity. New function enables old files to be automatically deleted when the storage is full (added in V2.0.1).
TASCAM DISCOVERY App and Web-GUI Allow Easy Remote Management of Multiple VS-R Unit Systems
The Mac/Windows "TASCAM DISCOVERY" app allows multiple VS-R units connected to the network to be managed from a simple Web-browser based GUI. All configuration settings are saved within the VS-R devices, so that in normal operation no computer is needed for streaming or recording.

Precautions related to updating the unit software
Always follow the procedures below when updating to Ver2.0.2.26.1. Failure to follow these procedures could result in making the unit unstartable. Procedures for updating from versions 1.0.0.7.1, 1.0.1.7.1, 1.0.2.7.1 and 1.1.0.7.1
If the unit is using one of the above versions, the procedures below must be followed to update it.
Step 1: Update to Ver1.1.0.11.1 using an SD card
Step 2: Update to Ver2.0.1.25.1 using an SD card or via the Internet
Step 3: Update to Ver2.0.2.26.1 using an SD card or USB flash drive
Note: Updates in steps 1 and 3 cannot be conducted via the Internet. Procedures for updating from versions other than 1.0.0.7.1, 1.0.1.7.1, 1.0.2.7.1 or 1.1.0.7.1
If the unit is using a version other than one of the above, the procedures below must be followed to update it.
Step 1: Update to Ver2.0.1.25.1 using an SD card or via the Internet
Step 2: Update to Ver2.0.2.26.1 using an SD card or USB flash drive
Note: The update in step 2 cannot be conducted via the Internet. Be careful because updating from Ver1.x.x to Ver2.0.1.25.1 will restore all settings, including network settings, to their default values.
For details, see the "Software Update Procedures Rev.E".
- RTMP 1/2/3 can now be controlled simultaneously by turning the STREAM button on/off.
- “Quality/Latency” can now be selected even with H.265 (HEVC) encoding.
- MP4 can now be selected for the video recording file format.
- The maximum files size when recording to external storage has been increased from 2 GB to 4 GB.
- Recording to 17 GB of internal storage is now possible.
- If the storage becomes full, files can now be automatically deleted starting from the oldest time stamp, and recording can be continued.
- If “Limit Max File Size” was OFF and the internal storage was completely filled, file deletion and further recording to the internal storage would become impossible. This has been fixed.
Files recorded on the internal storage can be deleted by executing a hardware reset.
Be careful because execution of a hardware reset will restore all settings, including network settings, to their default values.
ATTENTION:
To use the VS-R264/VS-R265 with Ver2.0.2.26.1, TASCAM DISCOVERY control software must be updated to V2.
When recording to the internal storage using Ver2.0.1.25.1, if “Limit Max File Size” is OFF and the entire 17 GB of internal memory is full, file deletion and further recording to the internal storage will become impossible.
Cautions:
Although the update file name is the same for both VS-R264 and VS-R265, their contents are different.
Using the wrong file on the wrong unit may cause damage and/or malfunctions so be careful when handling these.
